Where's the latest GamebaseZX (or Speccymania)

Sat Dec 02, 2017 1:50 am

The old Dax links seem to have expired.

Any idea where to find it nowadays?

SpeccyMania v4 2013 by Sparky (2GB) - originally uploaded by Dax.
https://mega.nz/#!X9YnjaiL!Y7HgTArmFjQG ... OPxjuYIayE

The pack also contains a very small update to version 4.5.
Which updated emulator scripts and GEMUS for changing the Spectaculator machine settings.
And a few screenshots added for the zxzvm adventures.

The script uses batch files to edit the Windows registry and might need you to run with admin rights for Win7.
Not tested with Win10.
If it doesn't work, you will need to edit the script and change the machine settings manually.
*The last used config is always saved to the Registry.

I always test, try to optimize before upload (if possible), because I like full automation. So it work properly - for sure. Also added missed entries for some 128k games, to run it with ZX 128 machine :)
I love Gamebase's creators and compilations

The SpeccyMania v4.5 download above is incomplete or bad.
Part of the "RZX" EXTRAS folder is missing after extracting the 7z.
not sure if there are any other problems / missing files after the unpack?.

This is the complete RZX set.

Thanks for the RZX files .mad.

It looks like the "Solutions" folder in "Extras" is missing though.

When choosing manage emulators, it says:

can't find GEMUS.DAT

How can I solve this and be able to run the games

Most GameBases do not come with a GEMUS.DAT
But do contain pre-configured emulators and emulators.ini file.

the GEMUS.DAT (if it existed) would create an "emulators.ini" file.
which you should already have.
check the paths to your gamebase install and emulator folder names.

emulators.ini

Code: Select all

[Emulators]
1=Unreal
2=ZXSpin
3=Spectaculator
4=

[Unreal]
UseShortFilenames=0
UseDefaultTypes=0
SupportedTypes=TRD;SCL;UDI;TD0;FDI;SP;SNA;Z80;TAP;TZX;CSW
EmulatorPathFile=C:\GameBase\Spectrum\Emulators\us0384\unreal.exe
ScriptFile=unreal.txt
WaitFinish=1
1=C:\GameBase\Spectrum\Emulators\us0384\unreal.ini
2=

[Spectaculator]
UseShortFilenames=0
UseDefaultTypes=0
SupportedTypes=TZX;TAP;BLK;CSW;Z80;SNA;RZX;SZX;MDR;ROM;TRD;SCL;FDI;YDI;DSK
EmulatorPathFile=C:\GameBase\Spectrum\Emulators\Spectaculator\Spectaculator.exe
ScriptFile=Spectaculator.txt
WaitFinish=1
1=

[ZXSpin]
UseShortFilenames=0
UseDefaultTypes=0
SupportedTypes=TZX;TAP;BLK;CSW;Z80;SNA;RZX;SZX;MDR;ROM;TRD;SCL;FDI;YDI;DSK
EmulatorPathFile=C:\GameBase\Spectrum\Emulators\zxspin\ZXSpin.exe
ScriptFile=ZXSpin.txt
WaitFinish=1

Hello all.
In my search to set up my Speccy retro collection again, I stumbled upon this place of treasure :)

I'd really like to have to files above, but having difficulty in downloading them. Mega gives some SSL error and even when I could access it, I'll run into the 1GB limit for free accounts.

Do you know of another place where I could get them? Preferably a torrent? I searched myself but was only able to find older versions.

Thanks a lot :)

i do not know of a torrent, but i suppose one exists somewhere.

the 1GB limit must be new, as i never noticed it before.
but i do have a FREE account.
try and delete the mega cookies and resetting your router for a new IP.

install the official MEGA downloader plugin.
this should let you continue the download after 6 hours (or even the next day).
so 3 attempts should get the file.
there are also other 'non official' ways (which i would NOT reccomend).
you will probably get blocked completely.

a VPN will work if you just can't wait...

Thanks a lot for that - I have everything now.

A few questions:

- I saw that the last version of GB is from 2014, but the java version is still being developed. Is it easy to update Speccymania with the java version?

- I saw that the Soundtrack folder is actually named "Soundtarcks". I didn't discover yet how to listen to them, but will they still work?

- One of my wishes with Speccy frontends is to somehow tell emus to start in 48k or 128k according to the corresponding version of the game. Do you know of any methods to accomplish this?

TIA

Sorry, i don't use Java.
i don't think it will be easy, unless there is a conversion tool available???

Yes, the MP3 files are linked to the incorrect folder name. :wink:

Yes, that feature already exists in the GB script.

Spectaculator only uses the windows registry to store and set the machine mode...
48k, 128k, +3, pentagon, scorpion.
so a batch file is used to run a .reg file, before running the emulator.

The GameBase GEMUS is used to store the game mode.
From the GameBase list. press F2 on Robocop 2 and enter text.
machine=128k

Unreal Speccy Emulator version 0.39.0 25 jan 2019 (deathsoft)
is much easier to script, as it has an INI file.
http://dlcorp.nedopc.com/download/file.php?id=3013

but that script is not in the current GameBase.
