How do you update this from a 1.2 database to a 1.3 as I presume that's the reason for this error
3191,0
Cannot Define Field more than once.
or tell me what I'm looking for in the .mdb file to remove please..
Thanks
I seem to remember in an early beta of 1.3 there was a program that ran and did the updates for you?

I had a similar error on one of the databases...I think I just swapped between databases a few times and made sure the custom view was set to 'All Games' and it disappeared.
BTW, the gba gamebase seems to work fine here.

Tried every thing here, I've looked at the mdb but it's almost impossible to tell what the duplicate field is without hours of lookingPugsy wrote:I had a similar error on one of the databases...I think I just swapped between databases a few times and made sure the custom view was set to 'All Games' and it disappeared.

hi Paul,
try deleting all custom views in the Gamebase.
then using Gamebase Toolbox v1.3 to scan and fix errors.
if you ran your gamebase in v1.3 it won't roll back to v1.2.
check your using the correct toolbox version.
if you have no joy,
send me the file and i will paste all the data into a new mdb for you.

Brain in freeze at mo
EDIT:
If it's easier would you put your mdb file up of file share or some such?
I'd love to know what this duplicate field is so I didn't have to ask for help on it

You need to run the MDB file in gamebase first.
that's if you still can avioding the error?
select a view from the drop down menu (next to play button)
then click the custom views button "..." to the left of that window.
and select remove view.
These are the default views and cannot be deleted.
<All Games>
<All Music>
<Favourite Games/Music>
<All Games Excluding Clones>
if you can't open the MDB file in gamebase, open it in Access
and delete all the entries in...
ViewData
ViewFilters
then select compact and repair database from TOOLS menu.
close down Access.
use GBtoolbox to scan and fix errors.

oh you meant my gamebase.
2 versions to test here.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SDH6BXZN
GBA(zip v1.2).mdb is for Gamebase v1.2 only
GBA.mdb is for Gamebase v1.3
Don't get them mixed up.
i did have problems with the extra long file names.
this needed a lot of tinkering to get it running on v1.2
hence the BETA tag.
all those problems should be fixed using v1.3.
let me know how you get on.

Database update--
Hi, .Mad--
Sorry to trouble you, but I've just had the same problem as Paul and I tried your link to pick up your `Mame` Gamebase database (v1.3). Anyway, that's the only way I
can get the new (1.3) version to work. I guess I'll have to figure out how to
import the c64, and Amiga, info into this database after I copy it.
I'm saying all this because I got the new gamebase soon after it came
out--it worked like a charm. Then my computer crashed a couple weeks later, so I re-installed. That's when I ended up with the same problem as Paul, with the v1.2 base not wanting to be updated to the new 1.3. Is there a
chance that the 'new' copy of GameBase 1.3, as posted, [recently?] is buggy? Thanks--
Also, I'd appreciate it if you could point me to where I can "import"
some various (c64,amiga,atariST,ect) base info's into what I've got--
Thx

Hi chas4132,
not noticed the bug myself, but i have updated with every beta.
This is the latest Full Version you want..
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gamebas ... e/download
i would uninstall v1.2, and check the Gamebase Directory is empty before installing this one.
As the registry might be corrupt if you had a crash.
Please Note:
once a gamebase has run on v1.3 it will no longer work on v1.2.
if you still have problems updating your MDB files after re-installing,
try to give details step by step how to duplicate the error.
uploading the MDB file here.
Then Jimbo would then be able check the code and fix the bug.
i will update any MDB files you send me.
just upload them and PM me the link.

Database update--
Alrighty then. I get the following pop-up error when I
install gamebase 1.3 --
From *error pop-up:
--------------------------
Error updating database! Your database may be corrupt!
[Cannot define field more than once. (3191,0)]
A backup of your original database should be stored here:-
R:\My Game Bases\GameBase\GameBase Amiga\GameBase
Amiga.mdb.bak
DO NOT RUN GAMEBASE AGAIN UNTIL YOU HAVE
RENAMED THIS BACKUP DATABASE BACK TO ITS
ORIGINAL FILENAME (GameBase Amiga.mdb).
IF YOU DON'T RENAME YOUR DATABASE BACK, YOUR
WORKING DATABASE MAY BE OVERWRITTEN!
-----------------------------
The data base I happen to be using here is the c64
base GBCv_07--commodore 64.
I'm sure the problem's something quite simple
PS: no big rush as it is, after all, Christmas...
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
