A First Star Letter!

We received the following e-mail from classic software house First Star Software, one of the few C64-era software houses that still remain in business. You will note that there are no First Star games offered for download in our site, and we strongly recommend to any of you who have First Star games hosted in your sites to remove them!!!

---------------------------

Hello Dimitris,
The links below to our game Millenium Warriors(TM) was just brought to my attention. We would greatly appreciate it if you would please remove the download link from your site. Your statement that the games 'have no commercial value' is something we very much disagree with...we remain in business and continue to exploit our intellectual properties. (In fact we are about to release a compendium with 14 of our classic titles on it and your providing Millenium Warriors (or any other First Star games) for free has and will cause us lost revenues.)

We appreciate your enthusiasm and dedication to all things C-64 related; but, upon receipt of this notice, hope that you will respect our position here and that you will remove the link to the download(s) right away.

Thank you very much,
First Star Software, Inc.

CG-Expo, Croydon
GB64 were present at the CG-Expo in Croydon on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th July, 2004 where team members James and John presented Matthew Smith of Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy fame with a copy of Gamebase 64, ST and ZX, as well as putting GB64 and GBST (with Gamebase ST member Rob) on show to the larger-than-expected crowd.

Andrew Oliver was also in attendance, co-author of the Dizzy series, and both gave Q&A sessions to interested fans. A Sinclair C5 was on show and available for rides, as well as the BBC Micro Doomsday project, a C65, a Nintendo Virtual Boy, and loads and loads of retro-related stuff for sale.

We hear the show was a resounding success, so we may see you at the next one!

Action & Adventure Game of the Week

Skool Daze -- The Odyssey

Htmlized reviews of these games from the UK C64 computer games' magazine Zzap!64 have been added to the Articles section.

The Odyssey is a missing text adventure, so I also added a link to that review from within our Forever Lost? section. It was the last Duckworth adventure, and probably their largest, as it came in a double tape pack.

In related news, I'm finished with the Zzap reviews overhawl and they all should look a lot better now. BTW, I'll be off vacationing in a sunny Greek island for the next 2 weeks -- and NO, I won't do any GB64 work during my vacation! :)
