could anybody confirm that the game was released first in 1988 in the US and then re-released as Adv. Basketball Simulator in Europe in 1989?

I can't confirm the 1989 date, but the rest is true.

According to The Mastertronic 199 Range web page Advanced Basketball Simulator was released on June 1st, 1989
