As a looong time rom collector and all around video game aficionado and obvious gamebaser, I must say, sometimes completeness is just a bunch of nonsense. We have these vast rom and iso collections for the simple sake of completeness and preservation and while both of these are important, god knows we play a very small percentage of them. The rest we power on just to see if they work and to even brag to our very selves that we got em, because even that's fun and most people don't generally care if you have a whole entire collection of anything, infact they'll think you're mental. I for one am having loads of fun with Seiya's work and highly highly appreciate it and I'll forever remember where it came from and who made it. I don't care if every single Dos title isn't represented. DOS games are generally.... mostly pure garbage anyway and I didn't waste my time with them even at the time, except for a few. Amiga and Atari was where it was at. Sure 3DFX stuff started impressing me but that was windows mostly and then I got a playstation.
I can see exactly why Seiya is having so much fun (even though its actually alot of work). He tracked down all the files by himself and made a gamebase. Kinda like when people used to download only their favorite or the good individual MAME games because 56k was a pain. This is the largest gamebase I am aware of so that in itself is to be commended. A HIGH percentage of anyone that knows anything at all about gamebase is downloading it (especially everyone in this forum). Even if they dont admit it and regardless of any criticism, people want it.
As for Pondo, your time and glory will come. You could easily be doing exactly what Seiya is doing. Releasing your awesome and very complete DosBase in parts, so that noone makes the mistake of downloading Goldies as you so bluntly, condescendingly and disrespectfully put. I mean hell, I'll almost be ashamed of downloading DosBase if you go on like this. There is another Dos project out there called ExoDos you know.
In any case, thanks to the both of yous. No one is paying you to do any of this and in a world where nothing is free except things that should be free or cant be harnessed into money making schemes, like air and gravity, thanks.

work to your DOSBase but don't attack me every time i decide to
call an update like final, new, iper..!!
You have your thread to make it.
Your post here are only the goal to show that your project is only project to use.
You can say all you want in your thread.
As concern CD games, my first intention was to release database without iso games becuase in that time, i don't know how to mount it.
When i find how to make it, i found any iso games to add from abandoware and from my original CD.
however it's my right to change ms-dos goldies in what i want.
if you don't like it, you are free to ignore it, but you don't came here to say what you said about ms-dos goldies.
PS:
in final update 14 will be many RIP update
i'm tired of you!pondo198 wrote:

Sure, but don't here.People should have the freedom to choose between the gamebases -(This is your words!). I am simply providing them information about the options available.

Thank you for replying. I looked forward to it, I knew you wouldn't be able to let it go even though I didn't attack you.
I'm surprised he thinks your work is worthy enough to help you out. Not that it isn't but he LOVES his ExoDos so much to the point of him not even wanting it to be on every tracker etc...
But that's just my opinion.
Not everyone wants or needs to become a Gamebase creator, otherwise you'll all be forced to work on the same things and have these kinds of flame wars with one another. Thank you guys, I love gamebase.
Seiya isn't making any claims, no nfo's, it's not scene, he's not even advertising tntvillage which looks to be his tracker of allegiance or choice. You realize that in spanish game forums people make all sorts of personal contributions with little to no debate, just praise. Imagine you there.
Exactly why is it you hate this guy so much again? basically he's been telling you dude do your own thing I don't mind just get off my thread already and let me release my project however I see fit regardless of what you are doing.- nothing compared to what I think of you.
Because to a gamer, rather than weed out your favorite games or ones you WOULD play, is a pain in the ass and these days the bandwidth and hdd space is entirely feasible.why collect at all? would any real collector now seek a complete set, regardless of what he or she is collecting...
It says to me "why stop there" this is alot of fun, people will love it as much as we do, it can be theoretically an endless project for us to kill time and apply and further our knowledge with. Plus they get plenty of props and fans all over the scene because of their work. Infact they are even doing something historical by preserving these games, otherwise it would be entirely up to the game companies that hold copyrights. These companies dont do what they do out of the goodness of their hearts it's a business. So thanks mame team, emu authors, gamebase creators etc. As for us? were the audience that deems this useful enough to spend valuable time on. Kinda like how I think this is valuable enough to spend time typing it.Wow, really? What does this say about the MAME development team, the Contributors to the GB64 project or all those community members working on TDC?
uh, we both work together on TDC, so yeah.

That's because most of my Gamebase questions have been thoroughly covered by searching the forums or just generally reading it.You "collect" (I use that word loosely) many gamebases, and yet, Out of all the threads in all the forums, you decide to make this your very first post, Quickly coming to the defense of Seiya's gamebase. Why, just now, get your feet wet here?
That's awfully true. However, let me tell you that it isn't anywhere outside my scope of comprehension. And people here have already covered anything I'd be interested in working on.I'm also assuming that you have not actually created any gamebase yourself.
Not everyone wants or needs to become a Gamebase creator, otherwise you'll all be forced to work on the same things and have these kinds of flame wars with one another. Thank you guys, I love gamebase.
Well, I've collected and played with more GameBases than I would have if I was forced to be choosy. The only concrete thing discernible from this little argument were having is that you're upset someone is doing another dos gamebase (holding people over) before your DosBase comes out. You have questioned everything about it including his intentions releasing it. This isn't gonna hurt you pondo, consider it some kind of giant demo holding people over until your fantastic giant gamebase is online. How would you feel if Seiya did all of this for himself only and no one knew anything about it? Alot better right? Seriously, alot of peole on this forum are creators, contributors, long time posters, and MOST of all big GameBase fans. They don't want to take any sides here for fear of pissing you off and possibly having you cancel your project outright. Basically, you got us by the balls. So, you only download (here and there) the gamebases that you want; so, how could you possibly understand or relate to the scenario I laid out in my post above?
If the shoe was on the other foot here, I wouldn't choose to get in the middle of this disagreement without a little more clout.

I do agree that Pondo's update post should have been made under his own thread which has not been updated since last year.
We are all here for the same reason. We are all fans of the Gamebase frontend, even if it is only for 1 or 2 gamebases. Can we just remind ourselves of that, move on and stay friendly please?
My understanding was that Pondo had started DOSBase long before Seiya started his version. Pondo had asked to work together rather than duplicating work, which was denied. This is where it should have ended, rather than all this back and forth crap that nobody wants to read.Exactly why is it you hate this guy so much again? basically he's been telling you dude do your own thing I don't mind just get off my thread already and let me release my project however I see fit regardless of what you are doing.

Agreed, this is a friendly fan based forum with a relatively small community we really don't need the bickering. One thing I will say to Seiya though is - your input on a joint effort with Pondo would be preferable and a benefit to all, especially as you are so enthusiastic and have a high production of updates on Goldies, this of course would bring a complete MSDOS collection to us all much sooner which is what we all want, right?Hidron wrote:My understanding was that Pondo had started DOSBase long before Seiya started his version. Everyone here makes good points.
Xentor, I actually welcomed your additional respose as well. You are both a scholar and a gentleman, and the short exchange of words has proven you a worthy opponent. You were right - I just couldn't resist the temptation to respond. Thank you again, I rather enjoyed this quick duel.
Hidron, You are indeed correct, it may have been a little 'tacky' to post DOSBase information here. So with that, I promise to only post it into the DOSBase thread from here on out.
OX - I'm glad you see my point about the possibility of accomplishment that could have been attained if Seiya and I had only worked together. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed, and so we must both just do our own projects now.
Seiya, I will not apologize to you, because I still feel what you have done is wrong, and I hold you, personally, in the lowest of regards. But what I will do to resolve this issue (I hope), is that I will avoid your thread. The other members of this forum are correct, in that, we should all try to keep it on a 'civil' or 'friendly' level. Although, I'm sure we are never to be friends, I think we can just both agree to disagree and move on with our own individual projects.

Thank you I appreciate that, I knew this was you all along anyway, a gentleman. Let me add a little something I though I'd never tell you because I am a lurker (one of many) here and have been following all of this longer than I've been a member of the forum. Unless it's specifically pointed out to me, of all the gaming projects I am aware of, DosBase has got to be the most massive undertaking of any fan-based gaming project I have ever seen since M.A.M.E. This is going to be legendary and it's going to be something people will buy hard drives for and keep and cherish for years and years to come. This would never happen even if somehow one gaming company could acquire all these copyrights. DosBase is overwhelming to me, I cant believe someone actually wants to catalog and make playable an entire dos collection, just the sheer amount of testing, configuring, scripting is plainly put...bonkers! And it is a reality thanks to you and some friends. Here's to ya!pondo198 wrote:Everyone here makes good points.

I actually think that MSDOS goldies should be called PC Goldies due to it's content of both DOS & windows games, this is not a bad thing at all and I think that more classic windows games of the era should be included, in fact this would differentiate it from DOSBase as being a purely MSDOS gamebase.
