but i get an error.

The game ZIP file is linked and verified.

i click "play game"
it shows a list (select runnable file from archive)
i select Z.bat (or whatever)

i have emulator ini setup correctly with .BAT, .EXE, .COM

then i get the error.
Runnable File within archive coul not be determined.

but if i select the game again (right click on game)
and select the zak.bat from the list it works.

maybe it's just me not understanding to new zip setup.
Is it possible you can send me your mdb file, and the game file that does not work? Thanks

BTW, Thank you for the front end!
Hi, thats a good idea. Perhaps I'll try it for v1.4 :)

Could the ability to set key=values to all games within a view be added. I takes ages to manually add them to a selected amount of games.

Thanks .mad., the files you sent helped me find the problem, and its now fixed (hopefully!). Nice DOS GameBase btw! :)

I'm now implementing the new unpacking code for Extras, so you can select the runnable file for Gemus-based Extras.

@hardmanm: another good idea. I'll consider it for v1.4!

The Windows7 issues are taking longer than expected. I can't get it to install on VirtualBox on Ubuntu, but I'm using an old version (of VirtualBox), so hopefully when I update it, it'll work.

Just to let Jimbo know, I now got .PNG screenshots working.

I simply reinstalled gb 1.2 on my machine, then copied the 1.3 Beta over it.

Come to remember, it must of was never installed correctly. I recall once changing machines and I just copied Gamebase folder(s) onto a another machine and never executed the 1.2 setup.

Hi

The new beta 1.3 looks great and we all appreciate your time and effort on this JIMBO.

One request I Have could you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add an Edit or Rename option on the file menu to go along with the Add and Remove options so that the Name of the game can be renamed bacause If you do a typo when Inputting the name of the game it is quite an effort to rename it by loading the MDB into microsoft access and renaming it in there if you know what I mean.

Many Thanks and keep up the good work.

RE: Error 32797

Sat Feb 20, 2010 10:25 pm

Hi

If anyone gets this 32797 error with the latest gamebase beta 1.3, I have found an easy fix in vista but I dont have win7 but I assume it will work with win7 too.

Right click on the gamebase.exe file and click on the compatibility tab, then tick 'Run This Program As An Administrator' and click Apply and Ok and the gamebase now starts ok.

@JonathonSaunders: You can edit the game name by clicking on it under the main game list :)

@everyone:

- Tonight I've added the ability to sort your custom views (as requested by Michael)
- Almost got the new GEMUS functionality working with Gemus-based Extras.
- Going to add a "Database Name" config field that will be settable/editable via the GBToolbox. This will appear in the main GB window title bar, instead of using the folder/mdb name. E.g. "Gamebase64 v7, (c) 2010 the GB64 Team"

Once the above is done I'll release another beta. Hopefully the last one before a public release.

Ok I feel so stupid, All the time I have used gamebase and now I'm finding that out.

One more suggestion Jimbo. Is it possible to have an option to change the way games are alphabetatized. e.g games starting with 'the' or 'a' are by default entered into the database as e.g 'amazing spiderman, the' or 'amazing spiderman, a' and I was just wondering if there could be an option to change the format for people who like the games with 'the' or 'a' at the start e.g. 'the amazing spiderman' etc.

Many Thanks

There's no way to change that at the moment. You can choose not to amend the name when you add a game, but that's it, they are fixed like that in the database. If many people ask for this, I might implement something in v1.4, but it'll mean changing all the game names permanently in the database.

New Beta:

http://www.leesti.com/gbv13b20100221.zip

- Fixed GEMUS bug where it was not saving the "runnable file in archive" if chosen during game-launch (reported by .mad.)
- Fixed issue where you couldn't always unlink a CloneOf link (reported by K.C.)
- Extras Window is now resizable
- Now able to set Runnable file within archive for GEMUS-based Extras
- Now able to set the order of custom views
- Added custom "Database Name" and "GameBase Window Title" fields, editable via GBToolbox

Still no luck getting Windows 7 installed yet.

Please please please with sugar on top can you guys test all the v1.3 features so we can wrap this baby up and release it! :) Thanks

Thanks for the new beta. I will start to test it tonight.

A few things that may help with the Win7 problems. I don't use Win7 ATM and I'm not a VB programmer, but maybe this can help:
  • DATABASE LOCATION
Gamebase stores the database folder under the program folder. Gamebase is by default installed in a folder GameBase under the Program Files folder, so the database is also there in most cases.
Vista and Win7 do not accept writing to files in Program Files. Users with standard permissions have readonly acces to Program files and UAC blocks writing to this folder.
Possible solution: Seperate GameBase program folder and database folders. Maybe it is an option to specify a Database Root Folder in the GameBase Options. GameBase will look for databases located under this root folder.
  • LOCATION OF INI FILES
Because writing to files is blocked in Vista and Win7, there is a chance that Gamebase also cannot create/modify INI files in the GameBase folder.
If this is true, maybe it's an option to store INI files in the All Users\Application Data folder (In XP the location of this folder is specified in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders).
To keep support for portable installations the installation program could create a file gbmode.ini in the GameBase folder containing GBMODE=Installed or GBMODE=Portable.
If GBMODE is set to Installed, all INI files are read and stored in a folder under All Users\AppData.
If GBMode=Portable, INI files are created and read in the current program folder (where GameBase.exe resides).
  • LOCATION OF REGISTRY SETTINGS
All registry settings are stored in HKLM\SOFTWARE\GB64.
Settings that can be set by the user (for example show splash screen) or change dynamically (window sizes) could be stored in the same key under HKCU. HKCU is writable for standard users, HKLM can only be read.
Also when stored in HKCU, every user can customize GameBase how he likes it.
I hope this makes any sense, again I'm not a programmer and don't have much experience win Win7.

With the new custom database names it is not possible to change the name in the database selector when Gamebase starts. Can this be added?

Hi K.C., thanks for the info.

With Windows 7, I'm hoping installing to a location outside of program files will solve most of the problems. In the v1.3 installer, I'll not default it to that location, and I'll warn users not to install it there if running on Vista or Win7.

For the registry issue, I can change GB to use HKCU instead of HKLM quite easily.

Fingers crossed this should solve the Vista/Win7 problems!

Good spot. forgot about that. I'll check for the custom names and use those if not blank.

Any chance that a GUI for editing kvsets will be implemented in the official release?

That would be nice. Depends on how much time I have, and how much longer people want to wait for the official release.
