UAC <> Firewall <> Antivirus softwarehrmes wrote:... UAC disabled because they rely on 3rd party software (Comodo Firewall, Symantec Endpoint Protection)...
- Firewall:
Monitors network traffic, that is all data that is sent from and to the local computer. Firewall rules can be created to block or permit certain types of data (incoming or outgoing, traffic with a certain port number, traffic generated by a certain process) - Antivirus/Antispyware/Antimalware:
Software that can detect programs on the local computer that may be harmful to your local computer or systems of other persons. - User Account Control:
A Microsoft solution for Windows based computers for the problem that the user needs administrative privileges to run a large amount of software.
Administrative rights to the local computer increase the risk of infection with virusses and you cannot block any feature for the user (like installing software, access to control panel, change desktop settings).
UAC temporary switches to administrative mode when needed and after the changes that needed administrative rights, it switches back to restricted mode.
So UAC decreases the risk of virus infections, but it does not detect or block any virus.
It also does not check any network traffic.
To work safe, you need them all.
