This looks to be an awesome gamebase. Thanks for posting it. I'm having a problem, though. Whenever I start a game, after a few seconds of running, I get a message: "The Atari Computer has crashed."
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with that message, but I keep all my emulators on a different partition, and when I was tring to use Gemus to point each emulator, I was confused as to the different versions of Atarii800win. When I click on the Gemus tab, there are 3 different emulators listed: Atari800win, Atari800win patched, and win800. But in the emulators folder, There are different folders:

atari800-2.0.3-windx
atari800win
atari800winhack
atari800winplus40beta4

Could the problem be that I am pointing the emulators in Gemus to the wrong emulators? Which Gemus listing goes to which version in the emulators folder? Is there anything else I need to configure in Win800 before it runs games? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Firstly Aari800winplus40beta4 and the emulator zip files can be removed. atari800-2.0.3-windx dosnt seem to work with Windows Vista. Your problem may be to do with where the emulator is looking for its system roms. For Atari800Win make sure you load the emulator and configure it to point at the roms located in the rom folder.

Hope this helps

I'm actually running XP. You were right about the rom locations, they were still pointing to where I had the old version of this gamebase. I fixed that, but I'm still getting the same error. It mentions I should probably try a different Atari setting, turning Basic on or off, or try running without patches. If I click on the Atari tab, and highlight machine type, I have a choice of OS-A, OS-B, XL/XE, or 5200. Which should I select. And should I keep Basic turned on or off?

I'm still not sure which listing in Gemus points to which emulator.
I also noticed that by pointing to the OS roms in one emulator, the other versions are now automatically pointed to those same exact roms. I guess the emulator writes something to the registry to keep track of locations and settings?

The games in the gamebase cover the Atari 400/800/XL computers, so some games only work with certain configurations. There is no cofiguration to work with every game im afraid. Some games are written in BASIC and require BASIC to be on, some wont work with it on. Some only work in a certain version of basic. So you can see that it is a nightmare to get some games to run first time.

Certain games are in XEX format and if it is not configured correctly for the game at start up, you are required to first change the emulator config to another model of Atari computer and then close it down, before re running the game.

Hopefully in time i will replace bad versions of games with better ones, also there is a problem auto loading tape games written in BASIC, it seems to just crash out the enviroment.

As for GEMUS scripts:-

Atari800Win uses atari800win.txt
Atari800winHacked uses atari800winhack.txt
atari800 uses 800 uses win800

The reason for the hacked version is to run the protected Disk versions of certain games.

Please feel free to report any problems to me via private mail or forum entry. Hope everyone is enjoying the gamebase

I'm having trouble downloading (more than usual, I mean) from z-share lately. All I get are popups, browser addins, and redirected links. But no version 6 files. Any chance of uploading this to a better share service such as Rapidshare?

Thanks,

Z-Share now requires ad-block software to be disabled to see the download links.

however you can't download these files because the links have been damaged or the files deleted from Z-Share.
it managed to last a good 3 months though.

a torrent of the complete gamebase is available on
underground-gamer.

or if you have version 5?.
i will upload just the version 6 updates for you.

Well, I guess I will never be using Z-share again. I'll be damned if I will disable normal computer protection to use their site. That seems a pretty dumb decision on their part, but que sera sera.

I appreciate your offer to upload the changes from v5 to v6, but I just found that my original download of v6 had made it into a backup before I had a HD wipe (nasty trojan). I had thought my last backup was before v6 was released, but thankfully, I was mistaken. Thanks anyway.

Cheers!

I have now just started work full time on the update to this Gamebase. I am looking for someone to design me a new spash screen and maybe some graphics for the icons and no screenshot pic.

I have added support for the brill new Atari emulator Altirra, just hoping the author will add some comand line support, at the moment it will only auto run disks.

I have also added all the homesoft compilation disks, yes all 360 of them.

Nice update Hardmanm, wish I could help re the artwork but I'm awful depstire an O'Level in art :)

What I can do is keep is keep pushing Phaeron to add those command lines you want, I'm the Mclane you see on the site and I get on ok with Avery / Phaeron...

I'll have a wee look at the size of the artwork and number of colours and see if I can muck sommit up...

Very awesome. Thank you so much for your continued work on this GameBase! I of course owned, and still do, A Atari 800XL and Atari600XL home computers with 2 Happy Enhanced 1050 Drives since the mid 80's and it makes me so happy that someone also has my continued passion for the Atari home computers. Ive submited all I can to other websites off all my Original diskettes to preserve them for everyone else and for myself to give back to the community as you have for myself and others. Thank you once again and I cant wait to see the latest version of your work. Keep it up! :) many thanks!
