That's because I didn't release the fixed beta yet ;)

Thinking that my current Win7 64, antivirus and firewall configuration is to blame for repacking not working, I copied the Gamebase folder to a WindowsXP VMware virtual machine and did a bit of reconfiguring for it to work.
Then I tried Ghosts n' Goblins again and repacking didn't work there either even though the d64 file is modified.

I'm not getting any warnings about missing dlls or other files when Gamebase is launched if something like that is the cause.
Event/error logging by Gamebase would sure come handy in a case like this...

Just a wild guess:
Could it be that you use CCS64 to play these games? In CCS64, you can select if changes to disk images are permanent or temporary. When set to temporary (IIRC that's the default setting in CCS64), changes that are written to disk are not stored in the D64 image.

No, I mainly use Vice 2.2 but I also have CCS64 configured. Anyway I check in the 'GBGame' folder the modification date of the d64 file and it shows that it has been modifed during the play session.

i was thinking just the same thing
if the "saving continously" option was set.

also you might want to check your "settings.ini" file.
it is located in your gamebase folder.

has it got these lines.
just edit as you wish.

Code: Select all

[UI]
ReZipGames=1
ReZipAsk=1
ReZipNotify=1
ReZipAdditional=2

This is at the bottom of settings.ini in Gamebase64:

ReZipGames=1
ReZipAsk=0
ReZipNotify=1
ReZipAdditional=2

Hi hardmanm

Yes it will be soon, just waiting on finishing the setup program, and a splash screen, and trying to see if this repack bug needs fixing. Shouldn't be long.

On a side note, I notice you haven't added your GBs to the new bu22.com yet. Any problems?

Cheers

HELP!!

Wed Apr 21, 2010 4:33 pm

ok people i need your help.

While using the latest beta of gamebase.
i got a system crash
the screen flashed blue and powered off.
on restarting my PC i got the message
"recovering from a serious error"
and these errors.
Image

The problem happend when i was using the MSX1 Gamebase.
i selected Extras and chose a Tape to load.
and it was a instant Game Over for my PC.

i think it might be the Custom script CAS loader conflicting with something. but thats just a guess. :wink:
--------------------------------------------------------
can anyone try and duplicate this error please.
so jimbo can fix it.
maybe on a spare PC with no crutial data on it.
--------------------------------------------------------
i was using XP Home service pack 3 if that helps.

rolling back to Gamebase v1.3 feb 2010
and the gamebase runs fine.

It seems a bit risky but I think that you should try the same steps that led to the system crach and see if it happens again. This would indicate whether that crash was related to Gamebase or not.

btw, I think I (well, .mad.) figured out the repack issue. Should be fixed with the new beta (which also has gemus logging its work to a log file)

I'd actually suspect the MSX emulator that tried to load (perhaps a bad tape name?). Something that uses DirectX is more likely to hard crash a PC than the GB front-end.

thanks for the reply,

i also suspect the BlueMSX emulator did something critical.
so deleted it and re-installed.

i have managed to get a Tape working from gamebase.
but i can't remember which Tape caused the error.
it feels like i am playing Russian roulette with the gamebase.

could the filename really be the problem?
if so, i will rename them all just to be on the safe side.
