Insert multiple games

Tue Feb 17, 2004 3:20 pm

There is a method to insert multiple games with Gamebase?
I want to create Super Nintendo Database by using GoodSNES game list but i can't even if i try to modify the mdb file. Gamebase give me errors.
I've also tried to use RomCenter Datas but Gamebase doesn't accept them.

Thanks

could you explain the settings and dat files you are using then?
i have tried several (about 15) dats from romcenter.com and ones that i have altered myself with NO luck.
i have tried sevreal combinations of options only to be told every time that there were no games to import...

in fact i've been waiting for an answer from somone for 2 months now...

thanks for the reply, but i'm not sure what you mean by 'made a dat of the available games'?
either way, i still get the error "there were no games to import" and it's really getting annoying:p
am i missing something tremendously simple?

ie in the romcenter 2.00 datfile import window? the box that says "rom path"? if so yes, and i get the same error whether tell gamebase the path or not (i also tried your method of making a dat from my 'have' roms)
i get a 'loading datfile into memory' followed by the 'there were no games to import' error.

You have to tell the gamebase frontend the path where your emulators are stored. Same goes with the games, extras, pics and so on if available. This isnt related to the dat thing at all. Make sure your settings in the Gamebase program are complete.

not sure, but i think we have our wires crossed- i am having no probs within gamebase itself (ie i have set up several dbs paths to emus/games/pics etcetc with NO problems).
rather my probmlem is with the gbtoolbox. whether i specify a roms folder OR NOT when importing a RC dat it gives the same error message (i have even tried unzipping the roms).

yup, of course (not quite that stupid:p)
that's why i'm confused- everyone else here seems to be doing it with no problem, but no matter what i try (except the combination of things that works obviously:p) i get nothing.
just one last try before i email james (again:p)
this is the order i do things in:

*open gbtool
*right click 'gamebases'
*click 'import romcenter datfile'
*select datfile
*default options (game name col3/rom name col5)
*enter rom path
*click START

then i get the there were no games to import error (whether i enter a rom path or not)

can someone confirm that this is the way they do it so i can just give up and enter all the games manually?
cheers (and thanks for all the advice so far)

You are not the only one. I too tried to import a DAT file in Toolbox 0.95, with no luck. The Error was "This datafile was not found to be version 2.00!". I have the latest RC Tosec files from tosec.org but not a single one that I checked worked for me. I even mailed my troubles to gamebase@itsa.me.uk as told in the FAQ, but no answer yet. I opened some DAT files in Word Pad and voila: they are version 2.00. So, what's the problem?

Does anyone here have a working DAT file that we could compare with our not-working ones? I'm sure it won't be a big deal fixing the files on our own. Maybe someone could post the first couple of lines of a working DAT?

OK, I have an answer from James:

"I tried your dat file and it imported perfectly in GB v0.95! I have WinXP also... All I can think is maybe it's a problem with non-english versions of windows.....(?) When I have more time I'll investigate the problem some more... I'm too busy at the moment though, sorry! :("

So he knows of the problem, and it has probably nothing to do with the DAT files or Toolbox in general. Let's wait and hope it can be fixed soon.

i get what you mean now, with tosec datfiles the games are entered, but i have a problem when entering goodxxx datfiles the list of games is there but no games so i just enter them manually, i've found it also helps if the roms are unzipped too.

i haven't received the dat file version error (except once, and the dat file wasn't 2.00, so not surprising really)
maybe i should try mailing again...
thanks for all the replies though
